Stormers Soccer Club was founded in 1980 in Rochester, NY by a small group of dedicated parents who wanted their children to have a higher level experience in soccer than what was currently available. Based in the Rochester suburb of Brighton, the club grew slowly over the next 20 years to include 5 to 8 primarily girls teams each year, from ages 11 through 17. In the last 5 years, Stormers has experienced explosive growth and now fields approximately 20 travel teams of girls and boys ages 8 through 17 each year. In addition, Stormers organaizes the Stormers Micro-Soccer program in the spring and summer for players ages 5 through 8.
Most of our growth is attributed to a strong emphasis on individual skills development through our Stormers Academy program. The Stormers Academy is administered by the Wagner Soccer staff, one of the area’s most highly regarded soccer training organizations. Stormers Soccer Club was awarded the prestigious Karl Krech Award in 2010 from the New York State West Youth Soccer Association for our emphasis on player, parent and coach education. Stormers Soccer maintains a parent-run Board of Directors with every team represented.
Stormers Soccer travel teams are formed each fall through a tryout process, as well as through attendance in the Wagner Soccer Academies. While most Stormers teams continue to be based in Brighton, we have several teams each year based in Geneseo NY, a small rural community about 30 miles south of Rochester. Players come from all over the Rochester area.
In the winter months, Stormers teams practice in the state-of-art Wagner Training Center in Henrietta, NY. Stormers Soccer and the Wagner Academy combined forces in 2009 to create this private facilty to serve the needs of both organizations.
In the summer months, Stormers travel teams compete in the Rochester District Youth Soccer League as well a other area tournaments.
